The extensive coastline, dramatic cliffs, sweeping bays and long beaches will astound as well as relax you.

Historic Wales

Ancient fortresses, medieval castles, roman remains, fortified towns, sacred places as well as mills, iron works and mining museums. Wales celebrates its historical and industrial past and enchants you by allowing you to step in and share the wonder.

With more castles than anywhere else in Europe, you can view the grandeur of the largest of these, Caerphilly Castle or dreamily enjoy the fairy-tale like Castell Coch ('Red Castle').

Experience Wales' history at St Fagans National History Museum with authentic dwellings from different periods, from 2000 year old mud huts to a splendid Elizabethan mansion. Witness history come to life at the award winning Llancaiach Fawr, a 17th century Civil War manor, in which costumed inhabitants bring this period to the present day. Here, those that dare can also take a candle-lit ghost tour around what is said to be one of Wales' most haunted houses. Alternatively Rhondda Heritage Park allows one to unearth the mysteries of mining and through an underground adventure discover the Black Gold that brought Cardiff to affluence.

Cardiff

Cardiff is the youngest capital in Europe - a city with a historical heart standing amicably aside modernity. A maritime city, the once prosperous port district has now been transformed into a thriving waterside area with restaurants, bars and entertainment in Mermaid Quay. Take a waterbus to and from the city centre or cruise around Cardiff Bay

From Cardiff Castle to one of the world's leading arts and performance venues, the Millennium Centre which opened in 2004, you can explore and admire both past and present. Cardiff also offers the largest collection of Impressionist paintings outside of Paris.
